High Risk Health Insurance

High Risk Health Insurance- A Crucial Option

High risk health insurance or what some refer to as a high risk health insurance pool is a health plan that helps to provide health insurance to people with medical conditions that make them uninsurable. A person can be considered high risk for many different reasons, but the common factor is that due to a terminal condition, health insurance companies are reluctant to accept applicants they consider "high risk". Because of this, high risk health insurance was created to help the uninsurable.

High risk health insurance pools tend to be self-funded, private insurance plans for people who meet enrollment qualifications and are generally created by the state for high risk applicants. Applying for a high risk health plan can be done directly through an insurance agent and/or the state in which the individual lives. Using the insurance is just like typical health plans, consisting of several health plan options and receiving an enrollment card. High risk pools make contracts with a health insurance company to administer all claims and paperwork, keeping your card and paperwork from appearing as a part of the high risk health insurance pool. This gives you the option of using your insurance just like any typical card carrier.

Typically, this type of insurance is a major medical plan just like any other with a range of deductable options to consider. Most commonly a PPO plan is used within the high risk health insurance, offering a range of services from prescription drugs, maternity plans and other services.

The cost of high risk health insurance is more expensive than individual policies due to its nature, but allows patients who wouldn't normally receive insurance a very viable option. Considering the circumstances of the individual, there is no better option than high risk health insurance.
